Hello All!

Hello everyone! My name is Amber Barney and I currently live in Nebraska. My husband is in the US Air Force, so we live on Offutt AFB, in Omaha. I am a very outgoing person and love to meet new people. We don't have any children, except of course our two lovely dog, Zeus and Bart, and our crazy cat, Bella. I'm taking this course because I always loved literature. I took all English honor classes in high school and enjoyed them very much. I loved to read poems, but mostly PB Shelley. I also think Oscar Wilde is hilarious! My favorite from him is his play, The Importance of Being Earnest. As a kid I grew up reading Harry Potter, so of course I still have to enjoy those from time to time. I also got into the Twilight Saga, I blame it on my mom! Along with these I like to read anything by Nicholas Sparks, and Dean Koontz. I tend to stay reading the same authors, and always love re-reading old books!
I asked my husband what he enjoys to read and he said he liked scary books, or some thrillers like Steven King. These excite him more than any other kind, he's not much of a reader.
I asked my mother what she liked and she said all Nora Roberts' books, she (like me) love to get lost in another world that has many gorgeous men.
I asked my best friend was she likes to read and she too likes Nora Roberts, but she is a big fan of Kurt Vonegut and his Cat's Cradle. She just loves to read interesting books, stuff that is different from others.
Hope this gives everyone a little insight to myself, and I look forward to chatting with everybody! Have a great term and don't get too sunburned out there!
Peace and Love,
Amber

  1. I really enjoy Vonnegut's work as well, specifically Slaughterhouse 5.
I also used to live in Nebraska when I was younger, so I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.
Also, thank you and your husband for the service to our country [:

  3. Welcome to English 104 Amber, I hope you enjoy!

I too am a fan of Nicholas Sparks, although I can't get through one of his books without crying. A friend of mine kept telling me you have to read the Twilight series, I kept putting it off thinking there is no way I would like it. How wrong I was, I read the whole series in less than two weeks and the last book I couldn't put down and read it in less than 48 hours. I am thinking of re-reading Eclipse before the movie comes out next week :)

  4. Hello Amber!
My name is Paulette Banducci and I am in your Lit class also. I really enjoy your zeal for reading. It shows in your blog entry and writing. If only I could be so good, but you have encouraged me to aspire to do better. My husband was in the AF also. I had a bad experience with a corn field in Nebraska when my car landed there, because I fell asleep. Ooopps! Thank you for the good reading.

  6. I am Jennifer, also in your lit class. Unlike you, I have never liked literature and, speaking with a friend the other night, I think I've figured out why. As a kid, I always read way below my reading level and then, when I got into high school, and was introduced to 'literature' I found it boring. So, I thought that all there was in the world to read was kid's stuff - which was fun - and boring 'adult' stuff. I hope I learn to like lit more through this class!

  7. Hi Amber,

I'm in your lit. class too! I like all those books you listed. I forgot to post I read Nora Roberts a lot. I really liked the Three Sisters trilogy and the In the Garden trilogy.

That is also my favorite Oscar Wilde. I like the movie too with Colin Firth!

I've been meaning to read Stephen King's, "The Shining." It is my favorite horror movie.

I was going to read the Twilight series this summer, but I don't think I'll have time with two English classes. I did read the Harry Potter books. I'm a fan. I plan on reading those again. Are you also a fan of the movies? I was first a fan of the movies and then the books.
